I would say that business is in my blood - I live and breathe the hustle. GQ: How did you get started within your career? QVB: London was my biggest success as a start-up in my career. I did very well for myself, I built a very big company in various sectors. Through that, by default, I got too big too quickly and a lot of things went wrong and I had to restart my career, which is why I came back to South Africa and focused on the mining sector. I had a massive cash flow problem in London with my first start up, I was looking to gain something more stable for myself and moving into the mining sector afforded my total diversity to what I was used to.

While it was tough initially to get started in the mining sector, I grew to become one of the largest private miners in the country — through a lot of hard work and obviously hustling through the system of making things happen. Through that experience I acquired a lot of amazing opportunities, so my motto is to always embrace the negative as you should look towards the positive that comes from that — as it will give you longevity for your career.
