Why does an embalmist use a trocar

It is attached to a suction hose which usually is attached to a running water source and drain known as a hydroaspirator. The process of removing organs using the trocar is known as aspiration. The instrument is inserted into the body two inches above and two inches to the right of the belly button from the embalmer's perspective. After the thoracic , abdominal , and pelvic cavities have been aspirated, the end of the trocar's hose is detached from the hydroaspirator and attached to a bottle of high index cavity fluid.

The bottle is held upside down in the air so as to let gravity take the embalming fluid through the trocar and into the cavities. The embalmer moves the trocar in the same manner that he or she used when aspirating the cavities in order to fully and evenly distribute the chemical. Once the embalming is complete, another trocar connected to an aspiration machine is inserted into the abdomen to drain gas and fluids. This is designed to prevent bloating of the body, as the embalming process does not halt the process of decomposition, only slowing it considerably.

Arterial embalming only reaches the parts of the body that are connected to the arterial system. The intestines, stomach, lungs, etc. We then remove all the content of the stomach, lungs, etc.

After the stomach, lungs, etc have been cleaned out, we then inject cavity fluid. After that has been done, we screw in a trocar button in the hole left by the trocar.

Finally, during this whole process, we use gloves. Before the surgical embalming or cosmetic processes can begin, the body is washed in a disinfectant solution and the limbs are massaged and manipulated to relieve rigor mortis stiffening of the joints and muscles.

Any facial hair is shaved off, unless the person who died wore facial hair. The mouth is closed and the lower jaw is secured, either by sewing or wires. If the jaw is sewn shut, suture string is threaded through the lower jaw below the gums, up and through the gums of the top front teeth, into the right or left nostril, through the septum, into the other nostril, and back down into the mouth.

Then the two ends of suture string are tied together.
